New and Improved Programs and Facilities Improve Care

From brick and mortar expansion projects to the introduction of new or enhanced clinical programs, HCA's Capital Division invests significant sums to stay in the vanguard of healthcare delivery. Here are some of our recent capital spending projects at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Joint Commission Accreditation -- Terre Haute Regional Hospital is the only hospital in Terre Haute to be accredited by the Joint Commission.  Joint Commission accreditation is a nationwide seal of approval that indicates that our hospital meets high performance standards.

Chest Pain Accreditation – Terre Haute Regional Hospital is accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers. The Chest Pain Center’s protocol-driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients when it is not clear whether they are having a coronary event. Such observation helps ensure that a patient is neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted. Terre Haute is one of only four hospitals in Indiana that has received Chest Pain accreditation.

Oncology Accreditation – Our Cancer Treatment Center has received a three-year approval with commendation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The accreditation was a result of regional’s continuous compliance with 36 separate standard areas.

September 2007 – The Philips Witt Patient Monitoring System was launched. This stand-alone and user-friendly system allows for sophisticated monitoring of patients by caregivers.

January 2007 – Center for Wound Care opens with advanced Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy Treatment chambers. HBO treats patients with 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. This treatment delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and assists in the healing process of wounds. The chamber also treats skin grafts and spider bites among other ailments.

August 2006 – Terre Haute acquires STRYKER OR Towers that allow for minimally invasive procedures. Compared to conventional surgery, minimally invasive procedures usually enable patients to recover and return home or to work more quickly. The risk of complications are decreased and scarring is minimized.

New Inpatient Rehab – New equipment is purchased for the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Language Pathology departments. This equipment enables caregivers to evaluate and treat patients with neurological, orthopedic, brain injury, cardiac and pulmonary diagnoses. For patients, this equipment improves their abilities relating to activities of daily living, strength, balance and other functional areas and readies them for discharge to their home or the next level of care.

June 2004 – A $40 million dollar new construction and renovation project is completed, adding a two-story tower to our Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit and expanding our outpatient surgery area. Our imaging department is transformed into a comprehensive Outpatient Services Center with a new MRI unit and two new CT scanners, new nuclear medicine and radiology equipment and additional mammography equipment. Community classrooms are added and cosmetic improvements are made throughout the facility.
